Fallout 3: The Pitt pulled off XBL, update due Wed.

Bethesda removes the 360 version of second Fallout 3 expansion for its award-winning RPG after confirming English-language version was corrupted; new version expected tomorrow.
Even though the 2009 Game Developers Conference was hogging headlines all day, many Fallout 3 fans were distracted by something else. Following the release of The Pitt, the second expansion to the award-winning post-apocalyptic role-playing game, reports began to spread of problems with the English-language Xbox 360 version of the add-on. The PC edition appears to be unaffected.

SAN FRANCISCO--The first day of the 2009 Game Developers Conference Monday saw some of Ubisoft's leading lights gather for an informal panel. On Monday evening, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat, Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking, Prince of Persia producer Ben Mattes, and EndWar creative director Michael De Plater perched on barstools in a chic restaurant atop the Moscone Center to face a small group of reporters.

Should Pure Handheld Gaming be Reserved for the Casuals?

Being hardcore doesn't mean you game every chance you get, following blogs covering the latest stories, listening to podcasts, and just in general keeping up-to-date with the gaming community. A handheld gaming device should be, well, a gaming device first and foremost. Many people out there believe that instead of investing in silly features like WiFi Web Browsing, devices like the PSP should be focused on pushing the power of their games beyond what anyone would expect.

Neocrisis: Nintendo Screws Loyal Gamers Again

Nintendo, they've done it again. They pissed off their fanbase. The upcoming DSi implements a region lock of the online store. Why stop gamers from buying from another region's store if they so wish? I see nothing wrong with it. It gives people a chance to check out some of the games from other regions without going through the hassle of importing.

200°Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2:

The mag has a quote from Hayachi saying, "Violence is not going to be one of the key selling points of this title... It's not all about how bloody it is." Instead they're going for "a much cooler, cleaner, sleeker look". So you won't see great big spurts of blood, but clouds of purple essence when enemies get dismembered.

The place today will be Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University, and the occasion will be the Class 1A 2009 Girls State Championship game.
The Lady Rebels, unbeaten in 27 games this season, and winners of 51 consecutive games over the past two years, will battle favored St. John-Hudson at 4 p.m. today for the opportunity to repeat their march to the title from a year ago when they knocked off Weskan for the school's first girls state cage crown.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars

Surely GTA on Nintendo DS is just a gimmick? Far from it – this is not to be missed.
Only Niko Bellic’s hapless cousin Roman might expect Grand Theft Auto on DS to come technically anywhere close to the games on Xbox, PlayStation or even PSP. But this doesn’t stop Chinatown Wars from looking stylish, and a game you’ll be happy to carry around in your back pocket – perhaps on your bling-bling DSi.

JOURNAL ARTICAL

Abstract We perform an experiment on a pure coordination game with uncertainty about the payoffs. Our game is closely related to models that have been used in many macroeconomic and financial applications to solve problems of equilibrium indeterminacy. In our experiment, each subject receives a noisy signal about the true payoffs. This game (inspired by the “global” games of Carlsson and van Damme, Econometrica, 61, 989–1018, 1993) has a unique strategy profile that survives the iterative deletion of strictly dominated strategies (thus a unique Nash equilibrium). The equilibrium outcome coincides, on average, with the risk-dominant equilibrium outcome of the underlying coordination game. In the baseline game, the behavior of the subjects converges to the theoretical prediction after enough experience has been gained. The data (and the comments) suggest that this behavior can be explained by learning. To test this hypothesis, we use a different game with incomplete information, related to a complete information game where learning and prior experiments suggest a different behavior. Indeed, in the second treatment, the behavior did not converge to equilibrium within 50 periods in some of the sessions. We also run both games under complete information. The results are sufficiently similar between complete and incomplete information to suggest that risk-dominance is also an important part of the explanation.

Appliances are taking up permanent residence in the heart of the enterprise data center — the data warehouse (DW). DW appliances — in all their bewildering proliferation — are moving into the mainstream. The reason? They are preconfigured, modular devices that support quick deployment for DW killer applications — most notably, accelerating online analytical processing (OLAP) queries against large, multidimensional data sets. DW appliances prepackage and pre-optimize the processing, storage, and software components for fast OLAP and fast data loading.

It’s utterly chaotic and offers surprisingly tactical fun.- Single race and season are the vehicle-based multiplayer modes and are both great fun with a friend. You can also turn on a death race option to bump up the weapon count and overall chaos a notch.

Musou Orochi Z, Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 lit up the weekly Japanese sales charts on its debut earlier this month, though it did so in a decidedly lopsided fashion. Of the nearly 400,000 units of RE5 sold in Japan during its first week, more than 300,000 copies were for Sony's PlayStation 3. Into week two, the PS3 edition of RE5 sold an additional 61,500 units, securing it the second slot in Media Create's weekly Japanese sales recap, though the Xbox 360 edition was nowhere to be found.

Semantic Web 'will come with privacy built in'

The Semantic Web, a project overseen by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), seeks to make the world wide web intelligently interpret what people are looking for when they are searching the internet. For example, computers would data-tag photographs and combine those tags with information from a desktop calendar, so people would be able to ask the web what the people in the photograph were doing on a particular day.
However, researchers have warned that the combination of personal information could lead to privacy compromises, including increased data mining.
Berners-Lee, who is director of W3C, told silicon.com sister site ZDNet UK last week that the teams working on the Semantic Web project are making sure privacy principles are included in its architecture.
"Certainly, Semantic Web technology will [enhance privacy]," said Berners-Lee. "The Semantic Web project is developing systems which will answer where data came from and where it's going to - the system will be architectured for a set of appropriate uses."
Another principle of the Semantic Web is that people who make a web request for personal information being held by third parties, such as companies and government agencies, will be able to see all the data those organisations hold on them, according to Berners-Lee.
