HAYS — Mikayla Skidmore is in familiar territory. Her junior teammate, Baylei Zehr, is experiencing it for the first time. But both South Gray Lady Rebel basketball players are excited to be in this place.
The place today will be Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University, and the occasion will be the Class 1A 2009 Girls State Championship game.
The Lady Rebels, unbeaten in 27 games this season, and winners of 51 consecutive games over the past two years, will battle favored St. John-Hudson at 4 p.m. today for the opportunity to repeat their march to the title from a year ago when they knocked off Weskan for the school's first girls state cage crown.
